favourite classics of the avantgarde and other new music

Venue: Vaihtolava (Fleminginkatu 21, Helsinki)
Tickets 10/7€, all three concerts 25/16€

A new music festival is born in Helsinki!

Kallio New Music Days will happen for the first time on the fourth weekend of January 2010 at Vaihtolava, Fleminginkatu 21, Helsinki. The concerts present rarely heard recent and historical contemporary music.

The performers are in addition to myself some of the finest and most devoted in Helsinki:  different reed instruments are played by Kari Heinilä and Heikki Nikula, the violin family is represented by Eero Ignatius, Teija Kivinen and Lilli Maijala, and accordionist Niko Kumpuvaara will be responsible for any fixed tuning elements.

During the weekend many interesting works will be performed, among these the agile trio Pyrähdys 2 by Tapio Tuomela, the captivating double bass solo Beast by James Tenney as well as Sofia Gubaidulina's spiritual In croce. Saturday night is devoted to spontaneous composition, and some of the resident musicians will improvise in this concert for the first time.

The events will take place in the intimate atmosphere of Vaihtolava, where performing and listening will be a journey for all. We encourage to reserve tickets in advance. After the concert there is a chance to stay, have a drink and talk to the performers.

Welcome!
Juho Laitinen
